CAC40 Expiration

Monday February 12, 2007

All futures markets switch to new contracts at regular intervals. Most markets switch every three months (March, June, September, and December), but some markets, such as the CAC40 (MONEP / Euronext Paris) also switch to new contracts every one month. The contract specifications for all futures markets specify which contracts are available, and when the switch (or expiration) occurs.

The current CAC40 futures contract will expire this Friday (February 16) at 4:00 PM Central European Time. The February contract will probably remain the most actively traded contract until Thursday, but on Friday the March contract will become the most actively traded contract.

If you trade the CAC40, you can update your trading and charting software to the new contract at any time, but the recommended time is before the market opens on Friday morning.
