Economic Calendar with Volatility

Sunday October 7, 2007

Similar to last week, this week's economic calendar has mostly European news releases, with a few US and Asian news releases, so the European markets will be most affected by the news releases. Most of this week's news should cause medium volatility, with the exception of the BOJ (Bank of Japan) Interest Rates, which should cause high volatility. The US, European, and Asian news releases for this week are as follows (all times are Greenwich Mean Time, which is 2 hours behind Central European Time, and 4 hours ahead of US Eastern Time) :

US

  • Tuesday : FOMC Minutes at 6:00 PM
  • Wednesday : Whoelsale Inventories at 2:00 PM, and Oil Inventories at 2:30 PM
  • Thursday : Initial Claims at 12:30 PM
  • Friday : Retail Sales and Producer Price Index at 12:30 PM

  • The US news that will cause the most volatility is the FOMC Minutes, which should cause a medium market reaction. The Retail Sales and Producer Price Index news should cause medium to low volatility, and the Oil Inventories and Initial Claims news should only cause a small market reaction.

Europe

  • Monday : Switzerland Unemployment Rate at 5:45 AM, UK Industrial Production and Producer Price Index at 8:30 AM, and Germany Factory Orders at 10:00 AM
  • Tuesday : Germany Trade Balance at 6:00 AM, UK Trade Balance at 8:30 AM, and Germany Industrial Production at 10:00 AM
  • Wednesday : UK Leading Indicators at 2:30 PM
  • Friday : EU Industrial Output at 9:00 AM

  • All of the European news is expected to cause medium volatility, with the exception of the Germany Factory Orders and UK Leading Indicators, which should only cause a small market reaction.

Asia

  • Tuesday : Australia Business Confidence at 1:30 AM
  • Wednesday : Japan Current Account at 11:50 PM
  • Thursday : Japan BOJ Interest Rates at 3:00 AM

  • The Asian news that will cause the most volatility is the Japan BOJ Interest Rates, followed by the Australia Business Confidence and Japan Current Account, which should cause a small market reaction.
