Economic Calendar with Volatility

This week's economic calendar has several news releases from each region, with many of the news releases expected to cause high volatility. This means that markets from all regions should experience some significant moves at some point during the coming week.

The US, European, and Asian news releases for this week are as follows (all times are Greenwich Mean Time, which due to the European and US time changes, is now 1 hour behind Central European Time, and now 5 hours ahead of US Eastern Time) :

US

  • Monday : Central Bank News Conference at 2:00 PM, ISM Non Manufacturing at 3:00 PM, and Central Bank News Conference (another one) at 6:00 PM
  • Tuesday : Central Bank News Conference (the third one this week) at 6:40 PM
  • Wednesday : Non Farm Productivity and Unit Labor Costs at 1:30 PM, Wholesale Inventories at 3:00 PM, Oil Inventories at 3:30 PM, Central Bank News Conference (is this really necessary ?) at 6:00 PM, and Consumer Credit at 8:00 PM
  • Thursday : Initial Claims at 1:30 PM, and Central Bank News Conference (of course) at 3:00 PM
  • Friday : Trade Balance and Import Price Index at 1:30 PM, and Consumer Sentiment at 3:00 PM (amazing, no news conference today)

  • The US news that will cause the most volatility are the ISM Non Manufacturing, Tuesday's Central Bank News Conference, Non Farm Productivity, Thursday's Central Bank News Conference, Trade Balance, and Consumer Sentiment, which should all cause a significant market reaction. The remaining Central Bank News Conferences, Unit Labor Costs, Oil Inventories, and Import Price Index, should all cause medium volatility, with the remaining US news releases only causing low volatility.

Europe

  • Monday : UK Industrial Production, UK Manufacturing Production, UK PMI Services, and EU Investor Confidence at 9:30 AM
  • Tuesday : Germany PMI Services at 8:55 AM, EU Retail Sales, and EU PPI at 10:00 AM, and Germany Factory Orders at 11:00 AM
  • Wednesday : Germany Industrial Production at 11:00 AM
  • Thursday : Switzerland Unemployment Rate at 6:45 AM, Germany Trade Balance at 7:00 AM, France Government Budget at 7:45 AM, UK Interest Rates at 12:00 PM, EU Interest Rates at 12:45 PM, EU Central Bank News Conference at 1:30 PM, and UK Leading Index at 3:30 PM
  • Friday : Switzerland Consumer Climate at 6:45 AM, France Industrial Production, and France Trade Balance at 7:45 AM, Italy Industrial Production at 9:00 AM, UK Trade Balance at 9:30 AM, and EU Leading Indicators at 11:00 AM

  • The European news that should cause high volatility are the UK Industrial Production, UK Interest Rates, EU Interest Rates, and EU Central Bank News Conference. The UK Manufacturing Production, UK PMI Services, Switzerland Consumer Climate, and UK Trade Balance, should all cause medium volatility. The remaining European news should all cause low volatility.

Asia

  • Monday : Japan Central Bank News Conference at 6:00 AM, and Japan Central Bank News Conference at 8:30 AM
  • Tuesday : Japan Leading Index at 5:00 AM, and Australia Interest Rates at 10:30 PM
  • Wednesday : Australia Home Loans and House Price Index at 12:30 AM, New Zealand Unemployment Rate and Change at 9:45 PM, Australia PMI Construction at 10:30 PM, and Japan Machinery Orders and Money Supply at 11:50 PM
  • Thursday : Australia Employment Rate and Change at 12:30 AM, Japan Machine Tool Orders at 6:00 AM, and Japan Eco Watchers Survey at 7:00 AM
  • Friday : Japan Industrial Production at 4:30 AM

  • The Asian news that should cause the highest volatility are the Australia Interest Rates, New Zealand Employment Rate and Change, and Australia Employment Rate and Change. The Japan Central Bank News Conferences, Australia Home Loans, and Japan Machinery Orders, should all cause medium volatility. The remaining Asian news should all cause a small market reaction.
