US Time Change

Sunday November 4, 2007

For the past week Central Europe has only been 5 hours ahead of US Eastern Time, but this was corrected this morning, when the US moved its time back one hour (at 2:00 AM local time), and Central Europe is once again 6 hours ahead of US Eastern Time.

If you are a European trader that trades the US markets, the US open will now move from 2:30 PM (where it has been for the past week) to 3:30 PM (where it normally is), and if you are a US trader that trades the European markets, the European open will happen at 2:00 AM instead of 3:00 AM (so your extra hour in bed is over).

The European to US time difference will stay the same for four months, when the whole process is repeated, starting with the US moving its time forward one hour on March 9th 2008. The current European to Asian time difference (that causes the Hong Kong (and Tokyo) afternoon sessions to start at 7:30 AM instead of 8:30 AM), will last for almost the next 5 months, until Europe moves its time forward one hour on March 30th 2008.
