Economic Calendar with Volatility

Monday June 30, 2008

This week's economic calendar is quite varied in the amount of news from each region. There are only a few news releases from the US, but many news releases from Europe, and several news releases from Asia. The US also has a holiday on Friday, so there are no US news releases at the end of the week. Even so, there are several high volatility news releases from each region, so each regions markets should still experience some significant volatility.

The US, European, and Asian news releases for this week are as follows (all times are Greenwich Mean Time, which is 2 hours behind Central European Time, and 4 hours ahead of US Eastern Time) :

US

  • Monday : Chicago PMI at 1:45 PM
  • Tuesday : ISM Manufacturing, and Construction Spending at 2:00 PM, and Vehicle Sales at ??:?? ?? (Unknown time)
  • Wednesday : Job Cuts at 11:30 AM, Non Farm Employment Change at 12:15 PM, Factory Orders at 2:00 PM, Oil Inventories at 2:30 PM, Treasury News Conference at 3:00 PM, and FOMC News Conference at 4:00 PM
  • Thursday : Non Farm Employment Change, Unemployment Rate, Average Hourly Earnings, and Initial Claims at 12:30 PM, ISM Non Manufacturing at 2:00 PM, and Natural Gas Storage at 2:30 PM
  • Friday : No news releases

  • This week's US news releases that should cause high volatility are shown in bold type. There are several high volatility news releases at the beginning and in the middle of the week, so the US markets should experience some decent price movment this week (except Friday).

Europe

  • Monday : UK Services Index, Mortgage Approvals, and Lending to Individuals at 8:30 AM, and EU CPI, and Italy CPI at 9:00 AM
  • Tuesday : Germany Retail Sales, and UK House Prices at 6:00 AM, Switzerland PMI at 7:30 AM, Germany Unemployment Change at 7:55 AM, EU PMI Manufacturing at 8:00 AM, UK PMI Manufacturing at 8:30 AM, and EU Unemployment Rate at 9:00 AM
  • Wednesday : EU Central Bank News Conference at 7:15 AM, UK PMI Construction, and Housing Equity Withdrawal at 8:30 AM, and EU PPI at 9:00 AM
  • Thursday : Switzerland CPI at 5:45 AM, UK HPI at ??:?? ?? (Unknown time), EU PMI Services at 8:00 AM, UK PMI Services, and Credit Conditions at 8:30 AM, Switzerland Central Bank News Conference, and EU Retail Sales at 9:00 AM, EU Minimum Bid Rate at 11:45 AM, and EU Central Bank News Conference at 12:30 PM
  • Friday : France Budget Balance at 6:45 AM, and Germany Factory Orders at 10:00 AM

  • This week's European news releases that should cause high volatility are shown in bold type. There are several high volatility news releases from Europe this week, so the European markets should experience some decent price movement this week (especially Thursday).

Asia

  • Monday : Australia Inflation Gauge at 12:30 AM, Australia Private Sector Credit at 1:30 AM, New Zealand Business Confidence at 3:00 AM, Japan Housing Starts at 5:00 AM, Australia PMI Manufacturing at 11:30 PM, and Japan Manufacturers' Index, and Non Manufacturers' Index at 11:50 PM
  • Tuesday : Japan Average Cash Earnings at 1:30 AM, Australia Cash Rate, and Central Bank Rate at 4:30 AM, Australia Commodity Prices' Index at 6:30 AM, and Japan Monetary Base at 11:50 PM
  • Wednesday : Australia Building Approvals, and Retail Sales at 1:30 AM, and Australia PMI Services at 11:30 PM
  • Thursday : Australia Trade Balance at 1:30 AM, and New Zealand Commodity Price Index at 3:00 AM
  • Friday : Japan Leading Economic Index at 5:00 AM

  • This week's Asian news releases that should cause high volatility are shown in bold type. There are several high volatility news releases from Asia throughout the week, so the Asian markets should experience some decent price movement this week.
