Economic Calendar with Volatility

Monday July 14, 2008

This week's economic calendar includes many news releases from the US, Europe, and Asia. Each region also has a few high volatility news releases, so there will probably be some significant volatility and decent price movements on markets from all three regions this week.

The US, European, and Asian news releases for this week are as follows (all times are Greenwich Mean Time, which is 2 hours behind Central European Time, and 4 hours ahead of US Eastern Time) :

US

  • Monday : Mortgage Rules at 2:00 PM
  • Tuesday : Retail Sales, PPI, and Manufacturing Index at 12:30 PM, and Central Bank News Conference, Business Inventories, and Economic Optimism at 2:00 PM
  • Wednesday : CPI at 12:30 PM, Long Term Transactions at 1:00 PM, Capacity Utilization Rate, and Industrial Production at 1:15 PM, Central Bank News Conference at 2:00 PM, Oil Inventories at 2:35 PM, Housing Market Index at 5:00 PM, and FOMC Meeting at 6:00 PM

  • This week's US news releases that should cause high volatility are shown in bold type. Most of the US news releases, and all of the high volatility news releases, are happening on Tuesday and Wednesday, so the highest volatility will probably occur in the middle of the week.

  • This week's European news releases that should cause high volatility are shown in bold type. There are European news releases throughout the week, but all of the high volatility news releases are happening on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, so the first half of the week will probably experience the highest volatility.
