Economic Calendar With Volatility

Sunday September 21, 2008

This week's economic calendar includes several news releases from the US and Europe, and a few news releases from Asia. The US has most of the high volatility news releases this week, followed by Europe with a few high volatility news releases, and Asia with only one high volatility news release. The US and European markets would normally experience some decent price movement throughout the week, but due to the recently enacted short trade prohibitions the price movement will be somewhat different than expected. The Asian markets should experience their usual volatility and price movement throughout the week.

The US, European, and Asian news releases for this week are as follows (all times are Greenwich Mean Time, which is 2 hours behind Central European Time, and 4 hours ahead of US Eastern Time) :

US

  • Monday : No News Releases
  • Tuesday : Central Bank News Conference, HPI, and Manufacturing Index at 2:00 PM
  • Wednesday : Existing Home Sales, and Central Bank News Conference at 2:00 PM, Oil Inventories at 2:35 PM, and Central Bank News Conference at 6:30 PM

  • Friday : GDP at 12:30 PM, and Consumer Sentiment, and Inflation Expectations at 1:55 PM

  • This week's US news releases that should cause high volatility are shown in bold type. There are several US news releases this week, with quite a few high volatility news releases (most of which are the Central Bank news conferences). The US markets will probably experience some significant price movement this week, but be aware that it may not be the same type of price movement as usual (see the short trade prohibitions for details).

  • This week's European news releases that should cause high volatility are shown in bold type. There are several European news releases this week, but only a few high volatility news releases. The EU markets should experience some significant price movement this week, but be aware that for the UK markets, it may not be the same type of price movement as usual (see the short trade prohibitions for details).

  • This week's Asian news releases that should cause high volatility are shown in bold type. There are only a few Asian news releases this week, but only one high volatility news release (the New Zealand GDP on Thursday). Even so, the Asian markets should still experience their usual level of volatility, and some significant price movement, this week.
